Body horror game Scorn hits Kickstarter with a gameplay trailer

Upcoming game Scorn made headlines last year with a teaser trailer that promised to be an H.R. Giger fan’s wet dream, complete with bone floors and weapons made of flesh and sinew.

We’ve heard very little about the title since then, apart from developers Ebb Software saying they are working on “an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber (sic) tapestry”.

So we were quite happy to see a new update from the team, but less so when we saw the content: the release date has been pushed back into 2018, and they’ve begun a Kickstarter campaign to fund development of the second half of the game.

The cheapest tier, which scores you a copy of the game when it’s finished as well as access to a demo right now, costs €13 / $15 / R200. From there you can add more to receive the usual assortment of art books, T-shirts, soundtracks and other such rewards.

To coincide with the announcement, they’ve put together a a rather lengthy gameplay trailer which you can watch below.

While that didn’t really satisfy the image of the game we’ve been brewing in our minds since seeing the teaser trailer, it is nonetheless good to see this game again.

Unfortunately the Kickstarter isn’t going too well at the time of writing: while it still has 34 days to go, it’s only raised €1 273 of the €150 000 goal so far. While it’s not impossible for the game to reach its ultimate goal, it’s going to be a long, difficult slog without a major push.

After being burned by crowdfunded projects in the past, we can’t in good conscience encourage you to give Scorn your money. We do, however, suggest you give the campaign page a good read and go from there – you may see something that could convince you otherwise.

Good luck, Scorn; you may need it.
