The Nokia 8 is out now and costs under R10 000

Earlier this year HMD Global launched a slew of affordable smartphones but many users wondered where Nokia’s flagship was.

Today sees the local launch of the Nokia 8 – the flagship smartphone we’ve been asking for.

Looking at the specifications the 8 is definitely a premium smartphone. Inside you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset along with 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage.

The real star of the show, however, is the camera set up. At the rear of the phone you’ll find not one but two 13MP camera sensors. At the front there is yet another 13MP sensor for selfies.

The Nokia 8 allows you to take a shot with both the front and rear cameras at the same time. Users can then use this to livestream to social networks or record video to share later.

HMD Global calls this feature a “bothie” we call it “why is the first time a manufacturer has implemented this feature.

The Nokia 8 also sports a USB Type C connector, a fingerprint sensor, and space to add a microSD card if the on-board storage isn’t sufficient.

The phone is available right now through Vodacom at a cash price of R9 499 which is pretty good when you consider you’re getting a premium device. For those that prefer a contract the handset is available on uChoose Flexi 150 for R449pm over 24 months.
