Edison faces Westinghouse in the first trailer for The Current War

Anybody who has read up about the electric “war” that took place in the US in the late 1800’s will know it’s a fascinating story.

If you can’t be bothered with books, rejoice: that story is being turned into a film.

The Current War tells the story of the battle between George Westinghouse (played by Michael Shannon) and Thomas Edison (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) in the late 1800’s which would determine whose electrical solution would power the modern world.

The film is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Glee, American Horror Story) and the first trailer reveals a rather gripping portrayal of the events.

Of course you can’t mention Edison without mentioning Nikola Tesla who will most definitely be making an appearance in this film and will be played by Nicholas Hoult.

Even Tom Holland (Spiderman: Homecoming) makes an appearance as a young Samuel Insull

Edison marks Cumberbatch’s third role as a technology giant. His previous roles include Julian Assange in The Fifth Estate, Alan Turing in The Imitation Game and now Edison in The Current War.

The Current War releases in November.
