Great news for Cell C subscribers, the network operator announced today that its data offering will be revamped almost entirely.
Part of this revamp includes reducing the out-of-bundle data rates for both pre-paid customers and customers on Cell C’s Connector plans.
From 1st October out-of-bundle data will be charged at 15c per MB.
While that change should help customers feel like less of a sting should they run over their data bundle Cell C has a much larger change that comes into effect later this month.
From 20th September customers will be able to extend the validity period of their data bundle by simply purchasing another data bundle.
“On the 10GB, 20GB and 30GB data bundles, Cell C has extended the validity period from 30 days to 90 days to ensure customers have ample time to use the larger data bundles without having to purchase additional bundles,” the network operator said in a statement.
The reworked data packages follow on below.
Data | 100MB | 200MB | 500MB | 1GB | 2GB | 3GB | 5GB | 10GB | 20GB | 30GB |
Price | R29 | R49 | R99 | R149 | R249 | R299 | R399 | R599 | R799 | R899 |
Validity | 30 days | 30 days | 30 days | 30 days | 30 days | 30 days | 30 days | 90 days | 90 days | 90 days |
As if that wasn’t enough from October contract customers on a Smartdata package will have an unused data carried over to the next month.
“These are just the first steps for Cell C to make it easier for customers to ensure that they can carry over unused data. We will be looking at innovative ways to ensure that customers get what they are looking for, while at the same time ensuring that we constantly invest in network quality,” said Cell C chief executive officer Jose Dos Santos.
These changes appear to be the first steps a network is taking to fall in line with proposed amendments to the Electronic Communications Act of 2005 put forward by Icasa in August.
While it isn’t exactly what the proposed amendments want to implement, it’s a step in the right direction and we must commend Cell C for taking the the initiative on this.
