More than a million Guardians are playing Destiny 2

Anybody that has been playing Destiny 2 on console since its release earlier this month should give themselves a warm pat on the back.

The reason for the congratulatory action is that the game has seen more than one million concurrent players since release. Bear in mind that the game released a week ago and only on Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

“With franchise pre-order records broken, and record day-one performance on PlayStation Store, it’s exciting to see engagement at the highest ever week-one concurrency for the franchise. Destiny 2 is off to a strong start as the #1 console gaming launch week of the year to date,” Activision Chief Executive Officer Eric Hirshberg said in a statement.

Gamers aren’t just playing the game though. Streamers playing Destiny 2 on Twitch kept viewers engaged for 10 million hours (collectively, mind you) with streams featuring the Leviathan raid being among the most watched content.

All of this and Destiny 2 isn’t even out on PC yet.

Incidentally, if like me you’re anxiously waiting for the Destiny 2 release on PC, you’re going to be waiting until 24th October.

In the meantime however it’s awfully nice of the one million plus console gamers to beta test the game for us so Bungie can iron out any creases ahead of the PC release.
