EFF leader, Julius Malema, has added his voice to the chorus of concerns over the new SABC board chairs, Bongumusa Makhathini and Febe Potgieter-Gqubule.
They were announced as the board’s chairs this morning by President Jacob Zuma, but concerns have been raised over their links to the President’s family.
Makhathini is the Chairman of a foundation run by one of President Zuma’s wives, Bongi Ngema-Zuma, while Potgieter-Gqubule has been a close ally and adviser to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma since her term as AU Chair.
According to Malema, who addressed media at a briefing today, the appointment of the two cements Zuma’s hold over the public broadcaster and could possibly mean the return of former COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng who was fired this year.
However, Motsoeneng’s return will not go unchallenged. “He [Hlaudi Motsoeneng] must know that he will return to the SABC when the EFF is dead,” he said. Watch below:
