Surprise cabinet reshuffle: Kubayi in, Dlodlo out as Communications minister and 5 other changes

In a surprise move this morning, President Jacob Zuma has reshuffled his cabinet.

The Office of the Presidency has announced that six departments (some very key) now have new ministers. This is the second cabinet reshuffle this year, following the major one in March, which saw the likes of Pravin Gordhan being removed from Cabinet altogether.

The new changes are as follows:

  • Hlengiwe Mkhize moves from Home Affairs to Higher Education and Training, replacing Blade Nzimande
  • Ayanda Dlodlo moves from Communications to Home Affairs, replacing Mkhize
  • Mmamabolo Kubayi moves from Energy to Communications, replacing Dlodlo
  • David Mahlobo moves from State Security to Energy, replacing Kubayi
  • Bongani Bongo replaces Mahlobo at State Security
  • Buti Manamela moves from the Office of the Presidency to Higher Education and Training as its deputy.

“I thank the former members of the National Executive for good service in their previous portfolios,” Zuma said.

Zuma wished the reshuffled ministers well in their new duties.
