#FeesMustFall: UCT to march on Parliament, demanding fees commission and 0% increases

Students from the University of Cape Town (UCT) will be marching to Parliament tomorrow to demand the release of government’s Fees Commission Report and that fees for the 2018 academic year not be raised.

Disruptions at UCT began yesterday, when students disrupted lectures and activities in lecture halls and libraries on campus.

Protestors informed fellow students that #FeesMustFall protests would be making a return to address a number of issues.

The Fees Commission Report was due to be released in September this year by a task team appointed by President Jacob Zuma which probed the feasibility of free education in South Africa.

The release of the report was originally scheduled for 2016, but was postponed to 2017. Zuma received the report in August.

It is expected that UCT will hike its fees, but its Vice Chancellor Max Price, has said the university can’t announce the new fees until the report is released, according to The Daily Vox.

Government is yet to announce when the report will be released.

UCT management condemned the disruptions, calling for calm. Police and security officials are on campus monitoring the situation.
