Bungie says about 400 Guardians have been banned in Destiny 2 on PC

There appears to be a rather large disconnect between Bungie and Destiny 2 players.

Since the game’s official launch on PC a number of Destiny 2 players have complained about being banned. At first the culprit that lead to the bans appeared to be software that injected code into the game.

That still seems to hold true but Bungie has said that players who were using tools “that pose a threat to the shared ecosystem of the game” were banned. Basically folks who used cheating software were banned.

The developer went on to say that it did not and will not issue bans for the use of overlays or performance tools. This includes Discord, Xsplit and others, that is to say so long as they aren’t negatively affecting the game for others.

Bungie says it has banned approximately 400 players on PC.

However, soon after Bungie issued the statement clarifying bans it updated its statement to read, “As part of our ban review process, we have identified a group of players who were banned in error. Those players have been unbanned. The bans were not related to the third-party applications listed above. We will continue to review the process we use to ensure a fun and fair game.”

Mistakes happen, we know this but the trouble with Destiny 2 bans is that you can’t appeal them.

There are also a number of players who have said that they were banned after launching the game with nothing but Battle.net and Destiny 2 installed on their PCs.

Many players congregating on Reddit suspect that folks that have been banned after simply launching the game may have cheating software for other games installed on their PCs.

We have been playing Destiny 2 on PC since late yesterday afternoon with both Discord (with overlays disabled) and two hardware monitors running in the background and we have yet to be banned.

The game runs rather well so far and its a pity that this ban situation is tainting the water of an otherwise smooth launch.

It appears then that so long as players don’t break any hard rules set by Bungie they should be fine.

Well, as fine as you can be fighting the army of a giant rhino dressed in white armour.
