Destiny 2 Diaries – Attacked on Titan

Titan is a wonderful location in Destiny 2.

Something about being surrounded by rough seas and broken walkways gives me clammy palms as I glide from one platform to another.

The design of the area is beautiful but damn Bungie, did you have to put so many perilous jumps around it? I’ve fallen to my doom at least five times since I arrived on Titan and the constant falls are giving me PTSD.

Another thing giving me problems sleeping at night is that Titan is crawling with a group of enemies known as the Hive. While the Thrall “foot soliders” are easy enough to deal with Knights can be challenging especially since the platform nature of Titan means you need to be aware of how far you are from falling to your doom at all times.

However nothing could prepare me to the Wizards. Yes folks there is an enemy called a Wizard.

After my initial encounter with these ranged death machines I completed the first main story mission on Titan and decided to one of the Public Events I mentioned yesterday.

I set my marker and headed out, dispatching enemies along the way and collecting Alkane Dust for Sloane.

Upon arriving at the location I dispatched a few enemies and rallied to the flag with 30 seconds to spare.

The game blurred my display and the Public Event begun except unlike my first accidental Public Event this time I was all alone and I was staring down my barrel at a massive Arsenal Walker with a health bar longer than a flight to China.

Like a 20-something living alone for the first time a cold-sweat washed over me as I realise that nobody else had joined this public event and I was alone.

BOOM!

A flurry of ammunition spat through my Warlock leaving me dead.

Seconds after respawning I died again, and so this continued for about two minutes. I fought hard and managed to knock off a third of the Walker’s health bar but eventually I failed the event.

The RNG was in my favour though as after failing and being told by Sloane that “we’ll get ’em next time” I opened my loot to discover my first Exotic item.

My first exotic – a helmet that sparkles!

Thanks Bungie.

After asking around I’ve been told that Public Events are usually rather empty toward the end of the week as most folks have already done their weekly public events goal.

It’s a bit unnerving as I really enjoyed my first one and I hope that as I progress through the ranks toward the end-game there are more “social” experiences I can join as I travel through the worlds.

Sub-class unlocked

After that harrowing experience I was told that I could head back to the Shard of the Traveller to unlock my Warlock sub-class: Voidwalker.

I still prefer Dawnblade.

After clearing the area of the Fallen and claiming my sub-class I was excited to head back to Titan to give the Hive a bit of revenge for giving me such a hard time.

Sadly that was not to be as while walking to the kitchen to get myself a drink of water Eskom decided that power was something other people should have.

I suppose it was late anyway and to be frank after my encounter with the Arsenal Walker I was fed up with being canon fodder.

I’ll see you again this evening Titan, and this time I’m not going swimming.
