Ranked seasons and two new Heroes coming in Dota 2’s Dueling Fates update

After what feels like months of the same old same old in Dota 2, Valve finally revealed details about its Dueling Fates update teased back in September.

The update is scheduled to land on 1st November which should be enough time to page through the encyclopedia that is the patch notes.

First up: two new heroes. Donté Panlin or Pangolier is a melee carry that can use his abilities to start a fight or escape one.

To counter all the carry love Valve is also releasing Mireska Sunbreeze or Dark Willow. This winged fairy of doom is a ranged support with disables and debuffs.

To mark the release of these heroes Valve has also released the Emblems of the Dueling Fates Immortal Bundle which contains cosmetic items for Pangolier and Dark Willow.

As I mentioned Dota 2 has been stale for the last few months and was in dire need of a gameplay update. Thankfully that is happening.

A number of items have been reworked and Valve has introduced five new items: Meteor Hammer, Aeon Disk, Spirit Vessel, Nullifier and Kaya.

We’re not going to go into every single change to items and heroes here but if you play Dota in any sort of seriousness then you should head to the website and acquaint yourself with the changes.

Before we let you do that however we must also point out that Dota’s ranked matchmaking will now follow a seasonal structure.

“During each season all players will earn a medal for their profile based on peak skill for that season. There are seven different medals, and within each medal there are five stars of progress to earn toward the next medal. Your current medal as well as your previous season’s medal will be displayed to all players before each match,” said Valve.

The first ranked season kicks off in two weeks.

Having skimmed through the changes there are some really big ones. Town Portals now being in your inventory from the start of the game and being on cooldown is a big one as is the rework of heroes such as Tiny and Beastmaster.

Beyond that the way regeneration of health and mana now works is going to take a bit of getting used to as well.

Well I suppose it’s time to give Dota another shot. Perhaps Necro won’t be a first pick anymore. Hey, I can dream.
