Samsung’s biggest earners are memory chips

Samsung has posted its earnings call for the third quarter of 2017 and, by all accounts, it’s been a good year for the firm thus far.

The company posted revenue of 62.05 trillion won for the period ended 30th September and operating profit amounted to 14.53 trillion won.

The key contributor to the success of the quarter is Samsung’s high-performance memory chipsets used in servers and flagship smartphones.

Demand for memory was driven by expansion of cloud infrastructure and as result of that, increased demand for NVMe SSD storage as well as DRAM in datacentres.

The South Korean firm’s display panel division saw an earnings decline as did the Mobile Business.

Samsung does however see the mobile and PC divisions rallying in the fourth quarter due to high seasonal demand.
