Local streaming service Showmax has announced that it has launched an app for the Sony Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 Pro today.

This means that Showmax subscribers can watch their favourite movies and TV shows on Android and iOS devices as well as both the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 consoles.

“Our apps team has a very simple mandate: give customers the choice to watch Showmax however and whenever works best for them. By adding the app for the PS4, the world’s best-selling gaming console, we’re aiming to broaden the appeal of Showmax and get even more people using our service,” said head of Showmax Africa Chris Savides in a statement.

How to get Showmax on your PS4

1. Go to the PlayStation Store on the PS4.

2. Search for “Showmax”.

3. Install the app.

4. Sign in to the app using the same email and password you used to sign up for Showmax.

A subscription to Showmax costs just R99 per month and you get access to the latest season of Mr. Robot (which is so damn good) and the entire boxset of Friends.

“Partnering with Showmax’s great internet TV service means we can now offer PS4 fans in South Africa the option of watching world-class TV shows and movies directly on their console,” said Ster Kinekor Entertainment chief executive officer Mario Dos Santos. Ster Kinekor Entertainment distributes Playstation in South Africa.

For those that simply want to give Showmax a test drive we recommend using the free 14-day trial the service offers. You can cancel at anytime but honestly it’s nice to have more options than just Netflix when it comes to streaming.
