New Star Wars trailer – is Rey squaring off against Luke?

With Star Wars Episode VII: The Last Jedi just under a month and a half away from release, fans may be forgiven for feeling a little overloaded on trailers.

Lucasfilm has pumped out a couple of teasers and sent out a full trailer the day that pre-sale tickets went on sale last month, but between the tweets from stars and the images shown on social media, it may be possible to piece together your own approximation of the film before it comes out.

Now, Lucasfilm has dropped a new trailer, so if you’re feeling like spoiler territory is being encroached  upon, you may want to look away now. For everyone else, check out the trailer below:

Okay, so as nice as it is to see Luke Skywalker back on the Millennium Falcon, there’s quite a bit beyond the acton to take in there. First up, what the hell is going on with Rey and Luke? All the information that’s been show off until now suggested an ‘apprentice/teacher’ relationship between the two. Second, it looks like the relationship between them is going to take on a rather darker twist than previously expected.

It’s probably a good idea for Lucafilm to throw the audience a couple of curveballs with this new footage, since the last trailer had the more cynical of us wondering if there were going to be any surprises when The Last Jedi opens later next month.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Last Jedi opens globally on 15th December. Tickets are on sale now.
