Earlier this month Elon Musk revealed the next step in Tesla’s business plan: a semi-truck called the Semi.

That truck now has a price tag although these are suggested prices and could change closer the launch of the vehicle.

Anybody interested in the Semi will have to pay a $20 000 reservation fee to start with.

Then the expected base price for a model that has a 300 mile (~482km) range sits at $150 000 (~R2 million), while a 500 mile (~804km) range model is expected to fetch $180 000 (~R2.5 million).

Tesla will also offer a Founders Series which will retail for $200 000, and prospective buyers will need to pay the full amount to reserve one.

These prices may vary internationally, according to Tesla.

The Semi is well priced in the US according to BGR which pegs the price of a standard semi-truck in the region of $100 000 to $150 000.

What a standard semi-truck doesn’t offer, however, is fuel savings that amount to $200 000. Bear in mind that these are claimed fuel savings from Tesla themselves, so take them with a grain of salt.

That having been said, the claimed energy consumption of the Semi when fully loaded is said to be 2 kWh / mile.

The Tesla Semi is expected to go into production in 2019.
