Just in time to add it to your Christmas wish list, distributor Gammatek has announced the local availability of the First Order Stormtrooper Robot from UBTECH.

The robot is (as you might expect from its name) a rendition of the First Order Stormtroopers seen in The Force Awakens. It’s a lot cuter, though.

According to UBTECH the robot is app-enabled and the embedded camera allows you to set customised interactions with three people. It uses facial recognition to dispense the correct greeting.

At the end of the day though this is a toy and you can use the app to launch attacks on the cat while enjoying the hilarity of its reaction in first-person view. If that doesn’t appeal to you, issuing commands by voice is also supported.

UBTECH also makes mention of a third person view which we suppose is a fancier way of saying “you can look at it from behind”.

Now, the real sticking point of this robot is the price. At R6 499 it’s not the cheapest gift you could ask for this Christmas.

As for getting your hands on one, you can pre-order the bot at Incredible Connection, hi-online, ShopandShip as well as

A release date has to to be announced.
