Put your Apple Watch on a 3D print of Thing from The Addams Family

In today’s edition of “I can’t believe no one thought of this before”: an Apple Watch stand in the shape of Thing from The Addams Family.

This obvious stroke of ingenuity comes to use from maker Mike von Rotz, who tells us that the process of creating this stand started with a free hand model from TurboSquid.

From here the model was rigged and moved into the correct position in Autodesk Maya before a section was cut out to incorporate the charger. This process took around three hours.

Printing took around 19 hours resulting in a hand that stands at 17 centimetres tall. von Rotz printed the version you see in the gallery below on a an Ultimaker 2+ in PLA.

Right now it’s a simple white print free of any paint to make it eerily realistic. If you’re already thinking about making one yourself to freak people out, the free files can be found on Thingiverse.

If having a fake severed hand in your home is just a bit too much for you, we suggest this other Apple Watch dock which transforms it into a tiny classic Macintosh.
