Cell C crowns the winner of its first innovation contest

Earlier this year Cell C kicked off a search for South Africa’s most innovative ideas in the form of it Shark Tank style TV show – Hangman.

The idea behind Hangman was to find innovative ideas that filled a gap in the market and not just another serial entrepreneur.

After months of searching Cell C has named Christo Rossouw as the Hangman champion.

The idea that won Rossouw the R1 million prize is mosquito repellent lamps.

“Mosquito-borne diseases are responsible for close to a million deaths annually, infecting around a billion people every year. I was looking to design a product that would be more effective and more affordable than products already on the market. Something that would act as a social innovation, but also have market potential,” said Rossouw.

The lamps require no additional security to work and the diffuser is compatible with refills from all major brands. The product will be distributed in three big supermarket chains through Fever Tree.

“I would like to thank Cell C for this brilliant initiative and hope they continue with it. The show was not only about good television for viewers but it gave contestants a rare opportunity to showcase their innovations,” added Rossouw.

Hangman is available to stream for free on black and a repeat of the episode will be broadcast on e.tv on Saturday 16th December.
