Google has revealed its list of the top searches South Africans made this year.

The results provide something of a snapshot of what locals were seeking out this year, and it made for interesting reading.

The top local search was for Dumi Masilela, the actor who was tragically slain in a hijacking in October of this year. Zimbabwe bumped up second, largely due to the ousting of Robert Mugabe and the subsequent regime change. Cyclone Dineo came third.

Away from hard news, South Africans mostly searched for dentists, pharmacies and KFC outlets near them. Game Of Thrones, surprisingly, was not the top searched television show this year; instead, the Netflix series about a teen’s suicide, 13 Reasons Why, piqued local curiosities more.
