Warm up your 3D printer for this frost dragon from Skyrim

While Christmas has long passed, there were many maker gifts given out on the day, including this 3D printed frost dragon from Skyrim.

Constance Taylor created this beast as a present for their father-in-law, which started by pulling the model directly from the game.

From here it was edited in MeshLab and Netfabb to remove the holes in the model to make a more solid print. It was also here where the wings were made thicker so they could support themselves once printed, and the base was made flat.

The seven pieces that make up the final design took 79 hours to print, before being glued together and cleaned up with some filler. After some sanding it was painted with Tamiya acrylics and Taylor tells us that the finishing process added around 20 hours to the project.

If you’d like a dragon straight from Skyrim perched on your desk, the files to make your own are available on Thingiverse.

We hope someone gifted you some filament, however, as the version you see in the gallery below measures in at 37cm wide X 32cm tall X 40cm deep.
