DJI’s Osmo Mobile 2 is a cheaper way to get butter smooth video

Many photographers, vloggers and film makers will tell you that the best camera is the one you have with you when you want to create content.

The trouble is that for many folks that means your smartphone and nobody likes looking at shaky video.

For that reason DJI created and launched the Osmo Mobile which allows users to slot a smartphone into a stabiliser to get buttery smooth video.

Now at CES 2018 DJI has announced a new version of the Osmo stabiliser – the Osmo Mobile 2.

The most fascinating thing about the Osmo Mobile 2 is that not only is it smaller than the original Osmo Mobile it’s cheaper as well.

Pricing for the original Osmo started at $299 according to The Verge and the Osmo Mobile 2 will retail for $129 when it launches in February.

DJI has also opted for an internal battery which has a claimed operating time of 15 hours with the gimbal fully balanced. The battery will take two hours to charge.

We hope that this cheaper price is mirrored locally though at current exchange rates the Osmo Mobile 2 has a price of approximately R1 600 and that’s before duties, taxes and markups are added.

All that having been said the Osmo is a great tool for vloggers that don’t have anything but a smartphone to use. It may be pricey but so is a gimbel and a DSLR camera.
