Google is being sued for allegedly discriminating against white men

Remember James Damore?

If not, he’s the engineer who was fired from his position at Google last year for writing a memo inferring that women aren’t biologically as adept at being engineers as men, and questioning the wisdom of Silicon Valley’s diversity efforts, minuscule though they are.

Damore’s memo went viral within the company with a lot of employees and former employees taking to social media to slam both him and the ‘research’ he used to back up his points. In the wake of this trash fire, Google let Damore go saying his memo violated “our code of conduct and cross(ed) the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace”.

Now, Damore is suing Google for what he alleges is the company’s discrimination against white male conservatives. Damore is part of a class action lawsuit, which includes another engineer, David Gudeman. Attorneys for the pair filed the lawsuit in the Santa Clara Superior Court in California last night (local time).

According to a report on the Guardian’s website, the suit alleges that Google keeps ‘blacklists’ of conservative employees with whom they refuse to work. The suit contains over 100 pages of internal memos and emails, which Damore’s attorney’s allege demonstrate an anti-conservative sentiment with the company and a basis for ongoing discrimination against individuals like their client.

There’s no court date set as yet, but Google isn’t backing down on its stance.

“We look forward to defending against Mr Damore’s lawsuit in court,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement.
