Metal Gear Survive beta drops

Ever since Hideo Kojima parted company with Konami, fans have been rather worried about the future of the Metal Gear series.

When Metal Gear Survive was announced in August of last year, the backlash and hand-wringing was harsh and instant. Kojima’s beloved stealth series was going to be turned into some sort of co-op survival shooter filled with zombies? Many cried blasphemy. Many others used words not suitable for print.

As time rolled on, however, some folk lucky enough to get to grips with the game had more positive things to say, even if the Metal Gear faithful took those previews with a gallon of salt.

Well, if you’re a player who prefers to make up their own mind rather than following the herd – or listening to game journalists for that matter – you now have the chance to sample Konami’s latest interpretation of Metal Gear.

The Metal Gear Survive beta drops today on PS4 and Xbox One today and it runs until January 21st. The beta includes two maps containing three co-op missions and live events. Players who take part in the beta will receive a FOX HOUND name plate, a Metal Gear Rex head accessory and one bandana accessory when the full game launches. Er.., provided they purchase a copy, of course.

So if you want to give it a go, you have until the end of the weekend to do so. If you like what you see, bear in mind that Metal Gear Survive launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on February 22nd and its slated to cost around R600.
