A 3D printed Umbrella Corporation launch pad for your drone

If you’re looking for a launch pad for your drone, consider this 3D printed one in the shape of the familiar Umbrella Corporation logo from Resident Evil.

Robert Wallace, a retired software engineer and maker, is responsible for the design. Wallace tells us that he modelled the launch pad in OpenSCAD, a process that took around 30 hours.

While this time doesn’t include the various test prints and resizes, it does include some abandoned ideas to make a foldable version. If you’re thinking about recreating this project, you will be printing out a solid platform for your drone which you may need to scale up or down depending on your needs.

The version you see in the gallery below is 40 centimetres from point to point, made to fit a Hubsan. The multiple pieces took around 12 hours to print when done one at a time, but you can speed that up if your printer is big enough to do multiple sections at once.

If you’d like to make your own the files are available for free from Thingiverse. To avoid painting you’ll need black, red, and white filament, and you’ll also want to pick up a spirit level to make sure everything is nice and even.

You may also want to pick up some chopsticks for the legs. The files do include printed versions that you’ll need to push into the ground until it’s levelled out.
