Netflix begins production on Mötley Crüe biopic

After a few years in limbo the film adaptation of the Mötley Crüe collaborative autobiography – The Dirt – Confessions Of The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band –  has finally started production.

The news was announced by drummer Tommy Lee on Twitter.

The film will be directed by Jeff Tremaine and be distributed by Netflix. The script was written by Rich Wilkes and Tom Kapinos

According to Variety, rapper Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker has been tapped up to play the role of Tommy Lee. There is no word yet on who will take on the role of the other band members.

The Dirt was published in 2001 and provides an often harrowing look behind the scenes at the rise of one of the world’s most popular glam metal bands as told by members of the band.

The stories told in the collective autobiography should make for some compelling – if at times morbid – viewing especially for those that haven’t read the book.

Having read the book I’m sure this film will carry an age restriction though to be frank I’m not sure anybody younger than 18 even knows who Mötley Crüe is.
