Cryptocurrency miners appear to have drawn the ire of GPU manufacturer Nvidia.

In recent months GPUs have been snatched up by cryptocurrency miners en-masse. This has led to a widespread shortage of graphics cards and a sharp uptick in pricing.

Many gamers looking to upgrade their PC rigs have been left wanting as more and more folks turn GPUs into workhorses mining cryptocurrency.

Now – in Germany at least – retailers have been asked to put gamers first.

“All activities related to our GeForce product line are focused on our main audience [gamers]. To ensure that GeForce gamers continue to have good GeForce graphics card availability in the current situation, we recommend that our trading partners make the appropriate arrangements to meet gamers’ needs as usual,” Nvidia spokesperson Boris Böhles told ComputerBase.

Several German retailers have reportedly limited the number of the same cards buyers can purchase per order. Mindfactory for instance only allows the purchase of two graphics cards of the same type per purchase.

While this is a nice recommendation for gamers from Nvidia it is just that – a recommendation.

ComputerBase goes on to say that the final decision to limit the amount of GPUs purchased per order (similar or otherwise) rests with the retailer.

Will this stem the tide of crypto miners scooping up graphics cards? Unlikely, given one could simply order two of the same cards from several different retailers to get the amount you would like in your miner.

The only thing that might stem the tide of GPU scarcity then is a sharp fall in the profits gained from crypto-mining.
