HTC Vive users yearning for a physical thumbstick for their controllers finally have a way to add one thanks to a 3D print.
Maker and game artist Clinton Strawn created this clever attachment basing his idea off of similar tablet attachments that usually connect to screens with suction cups.
His initial design used a 3D pen and a piece of tinfoil as a conductor. After finding conductive filament, Strawn got himself a 3D printer (the Creality CR-10 Mini) and went through five iterations before landing on the final design you can see in action below.
To make your own the files are free on Thingiverse, but you’re going to spend a lot of time getting your settings and materials right so it works properly.
If you want to avoid that hassle, Strawn is also selling finished versions on eBay. At the time of writing it’s $7.59 for a single thumbstick and $14.99 for the complete pair.
