God Of War release date announced

Kratos is set to make his triumphant return to the PS4 in the coming months.

Last night, Sony dropped a brand new trailer for its brutal hack ‘n slash, which also announced the game’s street date: God Of War will arrive on the PS4 on April 20th. That’s just three short months away. Well, not really short, but you get the idea.

Have a gander at the new trailer below:

Dare we say it, Kratos looks to have matured somewhat since his last outing on a Sony platform. In the past the God Of War games seemed to follow their pale-skinned protagonist from bloody sword fight to bloody sword fight with Kratos occasionally bellowing dialogue in between.

Now, it looks like the trail of blood and destruction he’s left behind him has had something of a calming effect on him, and the addition of his relationship with his son Atreus has added some much needed humanity to the character.

The new God Of War is something of a sea-change for the series, with action switching to a third-person, over the shoulder HUD and Greek mythology traded in for a Norse setting.

Alongside its release date, Sony has revealed that fans will be able to pick up Collector’s Editions and Limited Editions of the game; the former comes packaged with a 9-inch statue of Kratos and a cloth map, while the latter boasts a SteelBook case and a book containing concept art for the game.

Both, incidentally, will cost players upwards of a grand, so if you’re a God Of War fan it may be time to start saving those pennies.
