Have a look at the first trailer for the Han Solo Star Wars movie

The fact that Lucasfilm has had a Han Solo origin movie in the pipeline has been doing the rounds for a while now.

Fans were pretty much in the dark about how far along things were progressing with the film, but this all changed last night when the first teaser was aired at the Superbowl.

You can have a gander at said teaser below:

As you can see from the helpful strapline across that clip, Solo: A Star Wars Story also has a release date: May 25th. This means that if the film plays by the same rules as all of Lucasfilm’s other Star Wars movies, it’ll drop globally in a couple of month’s time.

To be honest, we’d had mixed feeling about the prospect of a Han Solo origin story. After all, it’s not like the Star Wars franchise has much of a winning track record in this regard. Anyone who ever watched the prequels will probably admit to never seeing Darth Vader as quite the unimpeachable bad ass he was in the original trilogy after watching Hayden Christensen’s portrayal of him.

That having been said, the trailer looks rather good; all the usual suspects are there – Chewbacca and a bloke we assume is a young Lando – and the Falcon looks impressively shiny. Dare we say, we’re more than a tad excited for this. Roll on May.

Oh, and if you’re interested, [here be Superbowl spoilers – ed] the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New England Patriots to win the Superbowl last night in a rather dramatic fashion, marking the first time this team has ever been crowned NFL champs.
