Independent tests reveal the top cybersecurity vendors of 2017

There are so many cybersecurity products in the market and choosing one can be tricky.

More often than not I’m asked which is the best security product and today we have an answer, sort of.

Kaspersky Lab has released results of independent testing of its security products as well as those of its competitors for 2017.

The tests measure how many top three spots each security solution earns during testing. The higher the solution places, the more secure it should be.

The Russian security firm is top of the pops with 78 top three places out of 86 tests entered, 72 of which were first place rankings.

In second place was Bitdefender which achieved 36 first place rankings and in third was Symantec (which distributes Norton) with 27 first place rankings.

“The TOP3 metric represents the aggregate scores achieved by over 80 well-known vendors in the security industry’s most respected, independent tests and reviews. Sustained performance across multiple tests and products gives a more meaningful assessment than a one-off performance in a single test,” explained Kaspersky.

Interestingly, Microsoft earned no top three spots. That’s not to say it isn’t secure but it isn’t as secure as third party solutions.

The independent tests cover a firm’s corporate, consumer and mobile products. The testing assesses performance of products against various forms of malware including ransomware, financial malware and phishing.

We do have to point out that these results are aggregated by Kaspersky so we highly recommend talking to an expert and doing your research before implementing any sort of security solution, especially in a corporate environment.

The full rankings are available below and you can find out more about the testing process over on Kaspersky’s website.
