Vanquish is now backwards compatible on Xbox One

While the Xbox One may be lagging behind the PS4 in terms of sales and exclusive games, its backwards-compatibility program is paying dividends for players.

Many Xbox One owners will be pleased to hear that Vanquish is the latest game to be made backwards compatible. Anyone who played this shooter back in the day will remember it was (and remains) a face-melting affair; directed by Resident Evil veteran Shinji Mikami, Vanquish mixes up frenetic third-person shooter action with cover-based mechanics and the ability to slide around the floor on your knees.

The game’s run-time clocks in at just around four hours if you manage to play it all the way through without dying, but it’s unlikely you’ll manage it. Given the number of gunfights, action set-pieces, awe-inspiring boss fights and bullets whizzing past the hero’s head, any longer than four hours would probably be soul-draining.

Easily one of the best shooters to come out of Japan, Vanquish is a must-have and further proof, if any was ever needed, that the developer behind it Platinum Games, is one of the most creative studios out there.

Alongside Vanquish, Lara Croft And The Guardian Of Light is now also playable on an Xbox One. A bit of a departure in the Tomb Raider series, Guardian Of Light is a dungeon crawler and twin-stick shooter filled with rather clever puzzles.

Both games are available for purchase on the Microsoft store. If you already own them on disc, just pop them in your Xbox One and you’re ready to go.
