Anybody looking for a car wash in a hurry will be pleased to know that a local app developer has created Kool Wash, an app that allows you to book a car wash at home or reserve space at your local car wash.

The app was created by the owner of Open-Technik, Freddy Mahhumane who tells us what inspired this idea.

“I live in an area were there are only a few car wash companies and therefore the queues are very long. I wanted to build an idea that will make things easier for anyone using it and in the process create more entrepreneurs,” Mahhumane tells htxt.africa.

The app works almost like Uber in that it connects car washers with those that need a car washed. Car washers can include folks coming to your house or traditional car washes that you need to drive to.

Opening the app will reveal a map that will tell you where the closest available car wash or car washer is and (in the case of them coming to you) how long it would take them to get to you.

Once in the app you can select from three different wash types: Silver, Gold and Platinum with different prices for different types of vehicle. Prices start at R50 for a wash and dry of a sedan.

Payment is facilitated through Payfast so you don’t need to fiddle with cash.

The sign-up process is easy enough and there is the option to sign up using your Facebook account to make things even easier. Once you’ve done that you just need to key in your address and snap a selfie. That’s it.

The creator tells us that he takes 20% of the car wash fee and the rest goes to the washer. Mahhumane tells use that he approves every car washer before they are allowed to be listed on the app.

Right now the app is available in all areas and car washers and those with filthy cars like mine are welcome to try out Kool Wash.

“I want to see every car wash in South Africa using our technology to make thing easy for them. I would like to expand different African countries and inspire more entrepreneurs to start a business using Kool Wash,” says Mahhumane

Kool Wash is available to download for free from the Google Play Store.
