Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 officially announced

There have been rumours circulating about the next Call Of Duty game for a few days now.

The buzz started after a tweet went out showing Houston Rockets player James Harden wearing a cap bearing a logo that had a striking resemblance to that of Call Of Duty: Black Ops III. Except in this case, instead of a ‘III’ the cap’s logo read ‘IIII’.

This immediately led to an avalanche of reports stating that the next COD would be Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4… or ‘IIII’ as it were.

Now Activision has officially confirmed that the rumour mill was correct. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be the series’ next instalment and its release date is set for October 12th. The news was announced on Twitter last night. Treyarch is handling the game’s development.

‘Forget what you know’, reads the tagline. Does this mean that the new game won’t be set in the near future like the previous two instalment? Does this mean that Black Ops 4 will be some sort of sea-change for the franchise? Maybe it just means ‘forget what you know (about Roman numerals)’.

As you can see above, there’s a reveal event scheduled for May 17th. Presumably this will be when the “game-changing experience” Activision has touted will be shown off.

In the meantime, fans might want to start saving up. The game lands on PC, Xbox and PS on October 13th. When it does it’s a pretty safe bet there’ll be a collector’s edition in the offing, and what ardent COD head wouldn’t want that?
