Uber South Africa adds new safety feature

Uber South Africa has added a new safety feature to the app following a number of requests from users.

The feature allows riders to contact Uber’s Incident Response Team 24/7 for a call back on all safety related issues.

Riders will need to open the app, tap Help, tap ‘Trip and fare review’ and then select the trip where they experienced safety issues. From there a rider will be able to select ‘I had a safety-related issue’ and briefly describe the issue before receiving a call back from Uber’s Global Incident Response Team.

“We are always looking for ways to improve communication with our community and we are excited to be announcing this call back line for riders for any safety-related matters they might have,” general manager for Uber Sub-Saharan Africa Alon Lits said in a statement.

Uber goes on to point out that this is not a replacement for the authorities and Lits says that riders should always contact the national emergency line (10111).

Uber has also said that it has hired additional safety response teams at Gautrain stations and other high-risk areas.
