Yakuza Kiwami 2 gets a Western release date

We over at htxt are unabashed fans of the Yakuza series.

From its neon-encrusted open worlds to its barmy characters to its eccentric side-quests, Sega’s beat-’em-up RPG series should have a place in every gamer’s heart.

If you never played any of these games, it’s worth picking up Yakuza 0 – the prequel to the series released last year – and Yakuza Kiwami – the remastered version of the original PS2 hit. Both are absolutely superb and good reasons for Xbox owners to feel more than a little jealous of their PS4 exclusivity.

Well, there’s more good news today for Yakuza fans: Sega has announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2, the remaster of Yakuza 2 for the PS4, will be arriving on Western shores this August. The 28th August, to be precise.

The game has been out in Japan since December last year and has received rave reviews. The game has been given an astonishing amount of visual polish and Goro Majima, the mad dog of Simano, is also a playable character in it. Sega also says every effort has been made to recreate the Western version’s script in Japanese.

“We’ve gone through the Yakuza Kiwami 2 script with a fine-toothed comb; every effort has been made to ensure that it’s the most faithful representation of the original Japanese,” Sega said in a statement.

Here’s hoping that South Africa is included in this release – that, is, we hope it’s global. If not, Yakuza fans had better start saving. VAT goes up next month and import duty is always costly.
