How to hack together a 10″ 1080p Nintendo Switch XL

If you were crushed by the news that the Nintendo Switch will not be getting a hardware revision any time soon, you will be happy to know that you can bodge together an extra large version of the console.

YouTube channel My Mate VINCE has created its own version of a Nintendo Switch XL, complete with a 10.1″ 1080p screen, a bigger battery, and a much improved stand for tabeltop mode.

Sounds great right? Well it is, until you turn the console around. What’s really been done here is that the larger screen acts as a base onto which a load of accessories have been strapped to.

Turn the console around and you’ll find the original Switch stuck onto the new screen. Connected to that is one of those smaller third party docks, a new stand, and a 75 Wh battery bank providing power to everything.

The Joy-Cons are attached to the side thanks to the metal rails salvaged from the official grip.

All of this brings the weight of this project to a bit over one and a half kilograms, and that’s ignoring the crazy amount of bulk which is now protruding from the back.

That being said, it’s still a neat (if not bonkers) little project that we’re sure can be improved upon.

The biggest change we’d make is the Joy-Cons, probably with the addition of some larger grips. This will make it much more comfortable to use, but it will also help spread all that weight.

There’s a quick overview of the project below, and an 18-minute long, in-depth look, should you want every single detail.
