Bumble responds to Match Group lawsuit with a lawsuit of its own

Earlier this month Match Group (the company that owns Tinder, Match.com and others) filed a lawsuit against Bumble claiming the dating app had infringed on its patents.

Now Bumble has filed a lawsuit of its own, accusing Match Group of interfering with its business during acquisition talks in 2017.

A report by TechCrunch outlines the three main points in Bumble’s suit.

The first point alleges that once Match Group had found out other parties were looking to acquire Bumble, it filed the lawsuit to make the app less attractive to investors.

The second, and perhaps most worrying claim, is that Match Group requested confidential and trade secret information so that it could make Bumble a better offer during acquisition talks. Bumble says that it provided the firm with the information but no offer was made.

The final accusation made by Bumble claims that Match Group “published false or disparaging information about Bumble, including statements in the press falsely claiming that Bumble infringed Match’s intellectual property, as well as false statements in the Lawsuit.”

Bumble is requesting monetary damages be paid by Match Group to the tune of $400 million, as well as an injunction which would prevent Match Group and its affiliates from using Bumble’s confidential information.
