Fornite on iOS is a runaway success for Epic Games

Mobile games are generally looked down upon by gamers, though for the life of us we can’t think why. Perhaps Fortnite on iOS will help change some minds.

While the game is a port of the hugely successful PC game, Fortnite is catering to mobile gamers in a big way.

Data collected by Sensor Tower reveals that not only is Fortnite in the top 10 grossing apps on iPhone in 23 countries, it’s also making massive amounts of money for Epic Games.

While Fortnite was still in an invite only testing stage the game made $620 000 a day from in-app purchases. On Monday 2nd April that revenue blew up 197 percent to $1.8 million in a single day.

This means (in the US at least) that Fortnite is out earning relative behemoths in the mobile gaming space – Candy Crush and Clash of Clans.

What’s important to note is that unlike Candy Crush and Clash of Clans, in-app purchases in Fortnite are purely cosmetic.

The other battle royale game contending for the mobile space – PUBG Mobile – is nowhere to be seen on the iTunes Top 100 Free Apps chart but it is number 20 on the Google Play Store.

Fortnite is not yet available for Android devices though Sensor Tower estimates that the game could easily gross $3 million a day once the game’s user base is able to grow to the size of the iOS player base.

Fortnite is free to play on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Mac and iOS with an Android release coming soon.

For those that prefer PUBG Mobile check out this cool controller that adds physical controls to the game. All you need to make it is a 3D printer, oh and some free time, perhaps a lot of free time.
