Apple, now with 100 percent clean energy

Apple has revealed that all of its facilities around the world are running on clean energy.

This announcement is a big one for Apple which committed to fighting climate change and creating a healthier environment a few years ago. The firm says that this achievement includes its retail stores, offices, data centers and co-located facilities in 43 countries.

“We’re going to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the materials in our products, the way we recycle them, our facilities and our work with suppliers to establish new creative and forward-looking sources of renewable energy because we know the future depends on it,” Apple’s chief executive officer Tim Cook said in a statement.

As a matter of interest all of Apple’s data centres have been powered by renewable energy since 2014. The company has also reduced CO2 emissions at its facilities by 54 percent since 2011.

Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino – Apple Park – are also being wholly powered by renewable energy. This includes a 17 megawatt rooftop solar power installation that is able to feed power back into the grid during period of low occupancy.

The comp[any is also pushing its suppliers to use renewable energy as well.

As many as 23 of Apple’s suppliers (including nine new ones)  are operating on 100 percent renewable energy.
