Google Maps is testing the use of landmarks to provide better directions

Google Maps users in the USA are reporting that the navigation app is currently reading out landmark names to them while providing directions.

Users are reporting that instead of “In 500 meters, turn right”, Google Map’s is speaking out instructions such as “turn right after Burger King”. This of course makes navigation a lot easier since drivers can easily identify landmarks as opposed to potentially strange roads.

The company has confirmed to Engadget that the Google Maps updates is” just one method that’s in testing to make guidance better”, but there’s no word on if or when it may roll out worldwide.

With the Google I/O conference happening soon, this probably won’t be the last we’ll hear about Google Maps or anything Google related, such as Gmail, anytime soon.
