GTA: San Andreas is an existential nightmare with CJ as the only character

The biggest video to hit YouTube over the weekend was undoubtedly the new teaser for Avengers: Endgame, but something special was also uploaded elsewhere, based on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Titled “the entire GTA SA story but CJ has schizophrenia” may sound a bit odd, but it’s immediately apparent what’s going on here after you watch a few minutes of this two hour-plus masterpiece.

While not explained by the uploader, it appears that a PC version of the game was modded to remove all other characters models and voicelines in cutscenes, aside from protagonist CJ.

What this means is that you’ll see hours of CJ talking to himself, getting into fights with ghosts and basically acting like an insane person. Every single time CJ delivers a moving piece of dialogue – just for the camera to pan to an empty, silent space – is funny every time.

Many other, non-character models were removed as well, so you get to see CJ miming actions like driving.

We’ve watched a good chunk of the video already, but it’s something you need to revist and go through in bursts much like another YouTube feature-length production in Shrek Retold.

If you’re short for time we suggest watching a bit of the opening to get the general idea of what’s going on, and then wandering into the comments as many helpful users have highlighted their favourite parts, complete with timestamps so you can jump to them.

The channel behind this upload is FlyingKitty, who you may have already watched in the past without realising it. Its YouTube poop of popular songs, especially “Despacito 2” – do the rounds whenever they’re uploaded with that fake sequel sitting at more than 50 million views at the time of writing.

We can only hope that CJ’s powerful struggle against a malicious modder gets as much attention.
