Nintendo Labo sells over 100 000 units in its opening week in Japan

Nintendo have just recently launched the Nintendo Labo and while critics have been skeptical about it for a while now, the device, and we use that term lightly, has sold over 100 000 units in Japan during its release week.

The Nintendo Labo, for those that aren’t in the know, is a series of DIY kits crafted to work with the Nintendo Switch. Users can build “Toy-Con” creations from cardboard and bring them to life with their Nintendo Switch systems thanks to the included software.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create reported that Nintendo have sold about 119000 Labo units in Japan. Siliconera further explained that

Nintendo Labo released in two versions with the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit that sold 90,410 units along with the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 02: Robot Kit which sold 28,629 for a combined total of 119,039 units between both kits.
With Japan’s Golden week (April 28 to May 6) currently happening and the summer holidays coming up in the region, the Nintendo Labo might find itself having more success soon. Currently the device is gathering a lot of praise online for its educational value.
