Latest Windows Update is borking PCs with Intel SSDs

The Windows 10 April 2018 Update has been released and you can install it now, so long as you aren’t using certain Intel SSDs.

Users running an Intel 600p or Intel 6000p Pro SSD have experienced crashes while trying to install the latest update with many being met with a UEFI screen after rebooting.

Not what we would call fun.

Microsoft says that it is working with its OEM partners as well as Intel to block devices running the SSD from install the update. The firm says that the issue is caused by a known incompatibility the can cause performance and stability issues.

Users that have already installed the update are advised to revert to a previous version of Windows. There are several ways you can do that all of which can be found here.

The firm said it was working on a resolution to this problem.

This is not the first time Windows users have had problems installing a major Windows update. The Fall Creators Update caused crashes for users with Samsung SSDs. According to The Register, this update was meant to fix that but we’ve had a number of issues installing the latest update on a Samsung 850 Evo SSD.

Here’s hoping Microsoft and friends can fix the problem sharpish.
