LEGO to make an app-controlled RC Batmobile

LEGO has been hitting it out of the park with interesting and novelty sets as of late, and that continues with a set that combines traditional plastic bricks with some new tech.

Set 76112: App-Controlled Batmobile is going to launch on 1st August this year for $99.99.

For your money you’ll only be getting 321 pieces, which is extremely low for the price. Price per part is usually ten US cents per piece, and this is more than three times higher.

The rest of your money is going into the electronic components called Powered Up. These were first seen in the robotics Boost platform and are now spreading to other sets.

You can then program and control the Batmobile using your phone, but we have to imagine there’s less combustibility compared to the previous robot kit in terms of what you can make.

You can read the full press release for the set as well as watch a hands-on with the finished build below.

If you live outside of the countries that will be getting the set in August, you’ll probably be waiting a full month or more for them to start appearing in local toy shops.

$100 sets are sold for around R1500 in South Africa, so start saving now if you want one.

If you can’t wait and you want an RC LEGO car right now, there is one on sale. It’s not a Batmobile, but the 42065: RC Tracked Racer is available in most toy shops.
