Barack and Michelle Obama announce partnership with Netflix

Once you leave the US Presidency it looks like you’re destined for a career in the arts.

After leaving office George W. Bush began painting military veterans and now Barack and Michelle Obama have announced they will be creating movies and series for Netflix.

No, we aren’t joking.

The Obamas created Higher Ground Production, which has signed a multi-year agreement with Netflix, the streaming service revealed yesterday.

“Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognized public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better,” Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement.

Former President Barack Obama said one of the couple’s simple joys during their time in office was getting to meet people from all walks of life and share their stories with others.

“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle Obama said in a statement.

There’s no word yet on what sort of content the Obamas will be producing but a person familiar with the deal told CNN we should see the first content from the couple in 2019.
