Fortnite esports gets $100 million fund from developer

The developer of Fortnite, Epic Games, has announced it will be ploughing some $100 million into the game’s esports scene.

At the most recent count, Fortnite boasts over 13 million players which is helped along by the game’s accessibility on mobile. It also doesn’t hurt Epic Games that Fortnite’s battle royale mode is free to play.

So, Fortnite is a big game and its about to get bigger.

“We’re getting behind competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game,” Epic Games said in a blog post.

During the 2018 – 2019 season the developer will provide $100 million to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions.

Sadly Epic Games didn’t share any details about these competitions but it has promised that it will tell us more in the weeks ahead.

With that much money on offer, we’re tempted to give Fortnite a go.
