Apple allegedly kicked Steam Link off of the App Store

Earlier this week Valve’s streaming app Steam Link launched on Android but, curiously, it was nowhere to be found on the Apple App Store.

This was despite Valve announcing earlier this month that Steam Link would be available on Android and iOS. So what happened?

An account claiming to be the Steam Database (but not affiliated with Valve in anyway) tweeted out a statement that is supposedly from Valve. It claims that Apple approved the app and then later withdrew the decision.

“Apple revoked its approval citing business conflict with app guidelines that had allegedly not been realized by the original review team,” reads the alleged statement.

While the statement is said to be from Valve we could not find it posted on any of the company’s official channels.

Many have argued that Steam Link is no different to apps such as TeamViewer which is available for iPhone and iPad but if Apple wants to grow its mobile gaming business having a direct competitor that has an established user base freely available on its platform might be bad for business.

If Apple really has kicked Steam Link from the App Store because of a business conflict that’s incredibly anti-consumer, but we will reserve judgement until both Valve and Apple release official statements.

In the meantime, you can use an Android smartphone to stream games from your PC. With Android phones being rather cheap perhaps that’s an alternative worth considering if you absolutely must play games on your smartphone.
