Last chance for startups to enter the HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge 2018

Everybody should have access to legal services no matter what, and the Hague Institute for Innovation of Law (HiiL) hopes to help with that.

Each year the institution holds a challenge that calls on innovators in the legal space to submit ideas and solutions that make the law accessible.

The challenge is called the HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge and it has brought about some truly spectacular solutions. The winner of the 2017 challenge was local startup Citizen Justice Network which trains paralegals to be radio journalists so that they can disseminate vital social justice content.

The challenge is taking place again this year but entries close on 31st May so, if you have an access to justice idea, now is the time to enter.

Once the application process is complete HiiL will announce a shortlist of candidates who will then be invited to pitch their idea to a panel of judges at a Boostcamp event. This year’s Boostcamp will be held at Leaderex in Sandton on 4th September.

Ahead of the Boostcamp the shortlisted candidates will receive a day of training.

Any idea is welcome but HiiL is focussed on solutions in the following areas:

  • Family justice
  • Land and neighbour disputes
  • Crime and law enforcement
  • Employment justice
  • Micro, small and medium enterprises

Winners will receive seed funding, training and access to HiiL’s international network of experts.

As we’ve mentioned applications are open until 31st May so be sure to submit your idea to HiiL on the Innovating Justice website.
