Ekasi Tech Fest returns to Soweto later this year

The Ekasi Tech Fest and Gaming Expo is set to take place in Soweto later this year after a hugely successful showing in 2017.

The event’s name has been shortened to Ekasi Tech Fest but it still seems packed with stuff to see and do, especially if you’re a fan of esports.

For the first time the event will play host to the Soweto Esports Community Cup Final for FIFA and Tekken 7. There will also be a Counter Strike Global Offensive match.

Aside from the esports, innovators and startups will have space to showcase their innovations in front of policymakers, government officials, and various ICT professionals.

This gathering of innovators will be made possible by the i-Village Foundation.

“There’s the Silicon Valley model and then there’s the Ekasi innovation model. Events like the Ekasi Tech Fest help people in the developing world uncover new ways of growing their own digital economies in ways that more conventional markets never imagined,” says Mpho Tladi, spokesperson for the Ekasi Tech Fest organisers.

Ekasi Tech Fest will take place at the Dlamini Multi-Purpose Centre in the Senaoane suburb of Soweto on 19th and 20th October. There are limited exhibition and sponsorship opportunities available which you can inquire about on the official website.

There is no word on how much attendance will cost but we recommend keeping an eye trained on the website, or on htxt.africa for any news between now and October.
