AMD and Intel unveil super-sized processors at Computex 2018

Bigger is better, at least that’s the impression we’re getting from Intel and AMD.

Both firms revealed new CPUs that boast huge core counts but one was a bit more revealing.

That was AMD which announced a new Threadripper processor that will house 32 cores. The chip will launch in the third quarter of this year and will run on a 12nm Zen+ architecture.

Then Intel unveiled its follow up to its 18 core i9 processor. The thing is that Intel didn’t share too much information about its monster chip.

We know it will have 28 cores and a 5GHz clock speed, and that’s it.

Intel didn’t even share the chip’s name with us, which left us a bit wanting.

Intel did give us a taste of the chip’s performance obtaining a score of 7 334 in Cinebench. We’re keen to see how this chip performs outside of synthetic benchmarks but we’ll take what we can get for now.

Like AMD, Intel will release it’s CPU later this year according to a report from Engadget but the exact date (or quarter) has not been revealed.

Whether you’re an enthusiast or not the fact that we are able to cram up to 32 cores on a piece of silicon is nothing short of impressive.
